Heiti verkefnis: Open debridement and exchange of tibial insert in infected knee arthroplasty.

Stutt lýsing á rannsóknarverkefni:
All patients reported to Swedish Knee Arthroplasty Register (SKAR) to have had an open debridement and exchange of tibial component (index revision) during the years 2001 to 2009 will be included in the study. The expected number of cases is 170. The SKAR contains demographic data on gender, age, primary diagnosis and detailed information on the primary operation, the index revision and eventual further revisions. A request will be sent to the orthopaedic departments performing the debridement for hosptial records and to the microbiological laboratories throughout the country for copies of culture reports. The primary outcome variable is healing of infection. Possible factors that can affect outcome are the time from primary diagnosis until debridement, the infecting pathogen, type of antbiotic treatment and patient related factors as concomitant disease. All data will be collected in a data-base for anlysis in collaboration with the statistical consultants of the SKAR.
The study is based on register data. Additional information will be requested in the form of hospital records and microbiological reports. Collection of data will be completed at the start of the research project and the role of the medical student will be to read the records and extract the information needed for the study and to participate in analysis and reporting. The methods have been used before in other projects at the SKAR

Mér líkaði alveg hrikalega vel við leiðbeinandann og rannsóknarvinnuna. Ég vann verkefnið á spítalanum og því var ég ekki í miklum samskiptum við sjálfan skólann.
