My name is Sam and I am a medical student from the university of Auckland in New Zealand. I am keen on doing a medical elective in Iceland next year. I have been allocated the time from 29 February until 6 May 2016. There are 10 weeks between this time but we are required to do eight weeks of clinical rotation. Please let me know if this would suit you guys or if you have any suggestions.
Students who wish to do exchanges in Iceland must first contact the organization responsible for those exchanges in their respective country.
The organization in New Zealand is called NZMSA. NZMSA is currently a member of IFMSA but not SCOPE active (does not yet participate in student exchanges), so unfortunately we currently cannot accept students from New Zealand for exchanges.
Please contact NZMSA for more information regarding whether they plan on becoming SCOPE active in the near future.
My name is Hannah and I am medical student from the Univeristy of Adelaide in Australia. I am interested in organising a medical elective for four weeks in September next year (2016) – this would be during my final year. Do you have information on how I should go about organising this?

Hey dear Imsic-Team,
i am a medical student from Germany and wanted to apply for a clinical internship in Iceland via IFSMA but I just noticed, that there is no contract between Germany and Iceland this year. Do you know anything about it? I would really love to spend my internship in Iceland. Is there any other way to organize the exchange?
Lovely greetings

My name is Franco, from Perú. I`m highly interested to do an exchange in Iceland by IFMSA PERU. Could you provide me some info about the cost of living in Iceland for the exchange period (1 month)
I am a final year medical student at the University of Oxford and I would like to arrange a medical elective in Iceland in 2016 – I believe we have a SCOPE agreement through MEDSIN-UK. I have read via IMSIC that exchanges are offered in July and August – however my medical school specifies strict dates (9th May-3rd June). I wonder if I would be able to arrange an elective outside these dates, and if you could advise me who to contact to discuss this? My preferred area would be sports medicine, alternatively other musculoskeletal, emergency or anaesthetics.
Quick question — do you know of any med students from the US who did a summer rotation at Landspítali in either emergency medicine or anesthesia? I’m just trying to get more details about the rotation itself in order to see if my school will give credit for it.
My name is Siobhan and I’m a medical student from The University of Manchester, UK. I have the opportunity to do a medical elective between 27 March 2017 and 21 April 2017, I would be very interested in doing this in Iceland.
I was wondering if you could provide me with any information as to how I can arrange to do my elective at one of the hospitals in Iceland?
I am a 5th year medical student studying at Chinese University of Hong Kong. I would like to apply a 4 to 6 weeks medical elective program in Akureyri Hospital in April and May 2017. May I ask what application procedures and language requirement are required?

My name is Burak UZUN. I am third year student at Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medical Sciences. For this summer period I want to join as Erasmus+ training student. And it does not have to an agreement among the universities in this programme because of summer traineeship. If I take an invitation letter from you, I will give it to my university Erasmus office and they will pay for it during these months. The duration of the training should be minimum 2 months and not exceed 3 months.
I would be very happy if you let me do my practice in your university. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
We are two students approaching our final year in medical studies in Germany. For german students in their last year of medical studies it is obligatory to do 12 months of work experiences. It is possible to do part of it abroad.
We would like to do the first 16 weeks of our elective period at Landspítali Reykjavik from May to September 2018. All of the 16 weeks should be at the surgery departement.
We already contacted the International Office. They told us that it is difficult to be accepted by applying directly to the hospital. Unfortunately we don’t have an ERASMUS program for that part of our studies and also no cooperation with Iceland. Also the SCOPExchange is not possible for us because it is just for 1 months and we would like to do at least 2 months or if possible even 4.
Maybe you have an other idea? We would be also really glad if you can help us out and send us a contact at the clinic where we can send our applications to. For example the contact of the director’s secretary of the Surgery Department. Then we could at least try to apply directly.

Dear Burak
It is great to hear that you would want to come to Iceland 🙂
IMSIC only offers an exchange through the IFMSA SCOPE program that is four weeks in July or August in Iceland for medical students.
I suggest you talk to the hospital directly regarding your questions for an exchange. They might be able to help you get in contact with the right people. You can find more information here: http://www.landspitali.is/um-landspitala/languages/english/international-students/. Here you can contact another hospital in Akureyri city in the north: http://www.sak.is/is/moya/fyrirspurnir
You could also perhaps talk to the International office of The University of Iceland, http://english.hi.is/university/international_office
Best regards,
IMSIC
