We only accept medical students through SCOPE exchanges. For alternative options we recommend contacting the hospital authorities directly, see information page. You can also talk to the international office of The University of Iceland.
If you are interested in coming to Iceland for a SCOPE exchange during July or August please contact the committee responsible for those exchanges in your respective country. A list of countries participating in SCOPE can be found here: http://ifmsa.org/exchange/scope/explore/exchange-conditions
If your country has a contract of SCOPE exchange with Iceland you will have to fill out a few forms and go trough a process directed by the people responsible for these exchanges in your country. These processes differ between countries.
If your country does not have a contract of exchange with Iceland, your committee will have to contact the Icelandic committee and create a contract of exchange. That is usually done in August. Correspondence should be directed to neo@imsic.org.
For more information about the SCOPE program, please refer to: http://ifmsa.org/exchange-the-world/
If you have any further questions please contact neo@imsic.org

Hi and thank you for contacting us.
I’m sorry to inform you that we are currently only accepting applicants that apply through their local medical student association (and through an agreement that IMSIC has with them). Although we would love to be able to accept all applicants, the small size of the Icelandic health care system and current financial restrictions forces us to restrict us to applicants that come through their respective medical student organisation. I hope you understand.
All the best and good luck in your studies

Hey there. I am Teng Lin, a fourth year medical student from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia. I would like to enquire about the applications procedures for medical electives in Iceland. (I am totally clueless about it) The proposed elective period for my final year of medical study should be on August 2016 to September 2016. I look forward for your reply. Thank you.
Hi Teng Lin, thanks for contacting us.
Students who wish to do exchanges in Iceland must first contact the organization responsible for those exchanges in their respective country.
The organization in Malaysia is called SMMAMS. SMMAMS is currently a member of IFMSA and is SCOPE active (does participate in student exchanges), so please contact them if you wish to participate in a student exchange to Iceland.
Best regards,
IMSIC
Hi, I am a 4th year medical student from Sydney, Australia, at the University of New South Wales, and would like to do a 4 week elective in a hospital setting in Iceland. The period would be between November 2016 and January 2017. I was wondering if you could provide me any information on who to contact for information. I know the SCOPE program only runs in July-August, but was told perhaps contacting the hospital directly would allow me to organise an elective in the winter?
Thank you!
Regards,
Angela

Hi! I am a third year medical student from Singapore, currently studying in the NUS Yong loo lin school of medicine. I am interested in pursuing a clinical elective in Iceland from May- June 2017 as part of my school’s clinical elective programme. I would have graduated from year 3 and be moving on the the 4th (penultimate) year of medical school by the time the elective period of May-June 2017 comes around. May I know if there are any available clinical placements for international students? I am open to various specialties and would appreciate any suggestions you could offer. Also, if no clinical electives within hospitals are available, could you give me some advice on other internships/student experiences i could possibly take part in? I would absolutely love to be able to visit and experience what Iceland has to offer :))
